10.05.26: Ema has now opened in even smaller premises than last time. Now with just a few kiosk items and of course hot Mydland sausages. It will only be open occasionally, preferably during the day on weekdays.... Save this website to your phone, so you can see if it is open/if it is planned to be open. (PS. Ema Minimarked opened on 2.5.2018 and closed its doors on 29.12.2021. During this period, Ema was a small kiosk of approximately 25 m2. Opening hours were weekdays during the day and closed in the summer Owner and only employee: Oddgeir Søreng

Handelshuset Ema AS was open from 1.7.1989- 1.9.2016 The opening hours were eventually extended to open ALL days until 10 pm. The store had a full grocery range and had a large selection of video and video game rentals. During this time, there had been a total of 135 employees and this was for many their first encounter with the working world. The operation went very well, but eventually other stores began to stay open longer, more stores opened on Sundays came, the prime time for videos was over and the cafeteria at Kongsbakken School had an expanded offer. This, as well as stricter requirements, increased costs and equipment that had to be replaced/upgraded, meant that the decision to close was made.

1981- 1989 Owner Per Lium

Around 1960, Ema was built by Einar and Marie Lium. Hence the name Ema. It was then just a small kiosk (see the picture from 1963). Around 1966, it was expanded and became a small grocery store. 1969-1974, the store was leased to Svein Hanssen (who later ran Handelshuset Bekkevoll and even later Skjernes kiosk. 1974-1981, the store was run by 2 of Lium's sons, Per and Jan Erik. 1981: The store was further expanded to the east. After Handelshuset Ema was closed down in 2016, the premises were rebuilt and most of the sales premises (north) were rented out for restaurant operations. Mood restaurant was located there from August 2020 to December 2023. Midgard Pizza & burger started operating in the premises in November 2025. In the small kiosk section (south), Ecoconsult AS had a showroom for heat pumps between October 2021 and 2025.
